Jane’s poem title pays tribute to the monarch butterflies who make an annual pilgrimage along the California coastline. The monarch butterfly migration fly-way is known as “The Butterfly Road.” In the poem itself, Jane uses the road metaphorically to stand for the healing journey of sexual assault survivors.
